Camp Quest Ohio Summer 2021 Health & Safety Plan

Rationale
Additional Health & Safety Protocols
Camp Quest Ohio will be adding additional protocols to keep all campers and staff members as safe as possible during our week of camp. The American Camp Association has developed a list of NPI’s (Nonpharmaceutical Interventions) and showed that rigorous use of NPI’s were effective in keeping campers and staff safe.
Among the NPI’s recommending by the American Camp Association are:
Pre-camp and in-camp testing
Quarantine procedures/minimizing exposure to others prior to arrival at camp
Consistent Cohorts/small groups
Masking/PPE
Distancing
Programming moved outdoors
Staggered meal times
ACA asked us to think of the NPI’s using the metaphor of the Swiss Cheese Model - each NPI has might have holes on its own, but by layering NPI’s it increasingly mitigates overall risk exposure.
NPI’s at Camp Quest Ohio
In operating our camp sessions this summer, we plan to implement all of the recommended NPI’s that the ACA has developed. For June, instead of the typical cabin structure, campers instead will have a small pod of campers that they will travel to activities with. For July, cabins will be reduced size to allow more space between campers, particularly in younger age cabins that are not eligible for the vaccine. Many of our daily programs already happen outside and can easily be shifted to allow for smaller, spaced out groups.
In considering Camp Graham, the areas at camp that would require additional attention to fully implement NPI’s (specifically masks and distancing) at camp are the pool, dining hall, bathhouses.
We will employ rotations for swimming/showers after swimming to make group size smaller and since the pool is outside that also reduces the risk. Meals and programs typically held in the dining hall will be moved outside to enjoy these activities safely while at camp.
